The Sonic Marble Run is an installation consisting of a marble run with piezo transducers picking up the sounds of the rolling marble, and an array of prepared loudspeakers amplifying the sounds.
It is a reasonably large installation where the audience are able to send a marble down the run and watch it progress on its journey whilst the sounds are amplified in various locations all around the room. I am interested in the idea that the acoustic, mechanical and situated sounds of the marble are also displaced and audible through loudspeakers located nearby. These loudspeakers also have their own mechanical and acoustic story to tell in that they have been ‘prepared’ – mechanically altered to change their sound……
